BUDGET PACKAGE TRAVEL TOURS BADRINATH INDIA

The Temple of Badri Narayan at Badrinath, is an imposing hive - shared edifice reminiscent of the temple constructed during the reign of the Katyuri rajas, who had their seat in Kumaon .Before the entrance is a stone of Garuda, the vehicle of Vishnu. The double doors before the inner sanctum are of silver and feature fine work. On either side are the celestial bodyguards, Jai (on the right) and Vijay (to the left). On the top panel of each door are raised images of Surya, the sun God.

The temple is built over the west bank of the river Alaknanda, and is reached by a small footbridge. The history of the temple is somewhat obscure. It is believed that Badrinath may have been an important place of pilgrimage in the Vedic Age (c1500-1200BC), but was converted into Buddhist shrine during the time of Ashoka (3rd Century BC). As winter snows begin to thaw, temple officials in consultations with astrologers and the former Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal,. determine an auspicious day for the opening of the temple, which usually falls towards the end of April or beginning of May. The temple is closed generally during the second week of November following an elaborate ceremony. The places to stay here are the Gharwal Mandal Vikas Nigam Rest House, Gujarat Bhavan and GMVN's Hotel Devlok. Buses ply to Badrinath via Joshimath & Srinagar from Rishikesh.

BUDGET PACKAGE TRAVEL TOURS KANYAKUMARI INDIA

At the Southernmost tip of India, where the Arabian Sea , the Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal meet, lies Kanyakumari, an important pilgrim centre. The Kumari Amman Temple here is dedicated to Parvati as Devi Kanya - the virgin Goddess who did penance to obtain Lord Shiva. As per the legend , at this spot, Kanya an incarnation of Parvati , had vowed to remain a virgin following her failed attempt at luring Lord Shiva into marriage. The arrangements of the canceled wedding lay on the seaside for centuries , and turned into stone. The older generations still talk of the curious pebbles on the beach shaped like rice and pulses and other essentials of a wedding feast. Two rocks reach out of the ocean, south east of Kumari Amman temple. One of these is Sri Padapari where the footprints of the virgin goddess are to be seen. On this rock Swami Vivekananda sat in long and deep meditation ; and here stands the Vivekananda Memorial built in 1970.
